Starting a tech company is a bold move. Could you share the story behind how the idea for VOXBOX came about and how you managed to take it from conception to reality?

 

Oh, where to begin? Picture this: a small team of visionaries aiming to conquer the uncharted territories of the Metaverse by creating digital wearables and Avatars in Decentraland. We were more than just dreamers; we were trailblazers ready to set the world ablaze with our ideas. The spark ignited during Decentraland’s first annual Metaverse Fashion Week. We were the new kids on the block, but that didn’t hold us back. As our unique designs took center stage, the attention we grabbed from other big brands was electrifying! That’s when I knew we were on to something big. But was that enough? Not for us at VoxBox. The taste of success only fueled our hunger and gave me a sense that we needed to push beyond, to break new boundaries. That’s when Spatial crossed my path. I can still remember the night I stumbled upon it, eyes wide with fascination, heart racing with possibilities. Spatial offered something extraordinary: the ability to build our very own virtual world for free, and the opportunity to sell it to companies or individuals. The future of E-commerce in Virtual Reality was right at our fingertips, and I felt it calling to me. I couldn’t wait another second. I picked up the phone and dialed Daniel, my Co-Founder and Chief’s Architect. The words tumbled out of me, ideas flowing like a torrent, as we began to map out our new course. It was more than a business decision; it was a pivotal moment that would redefine our path. We knew what we had to do. We had to refine our vision, to focus VoxBox into one lane that would make us highly recognized and respected. We had to reach out, form big partnerships, and collaborate with major names and brands. In the world of tech entrepreneurship, innovation is key. What specific technological challenges did you face when creating virtual environments and metaverses, and how did you address them?

The road to creating something truly extraordinary is never smooth. We knew what we needed to accomplish before we went public with our builds: creating unique photorealistic environments that would captivate and mesmerize. And it had to be done our way. Daniel, our Chief Architect, was a man possessed, driven by a relentless pursuit of perfection. Night after night, he toiled away, perfecting his craft in creating photorealistic environments. His hands danced over the controls, eyes locked on the screen, each pixel a step closer to giving us an identity that would set us apart. But it wasn’t just about aesthetics. No, we wanted more. We wanted a look that would resonate with our clients, that would speak to their hearts and minds. This led us to a decision that seemed almost counterintuitive: we created restraints, boxed ourselves in, forcing us to build within certain specifications. The constraints were confining, and the process was grueling, but they became our guiding principles. It’s one thing to build according to whims and fancies; it’s quite another to build with purpose and direction. While most builders of the present day crafted environments according to how they felt, we chose a different path. We delved into research, pored over data, and sought to understand what brands and consumers truly wanted. The process was agonizingly difficult, filled with trials and errors, frustrations and breakthroughs. There were moments when I questioned our approach, moments when the pressure seemed unbearable. But every time I looked into the virtual landscapes we were creating, I knew we were on the right path. Our environments were not mere constructs; they were living, breathing worlds shaped by the desires and expectations of our clients. We were not merely builders; we were visionaries, interpreters of dreams, weaving together artistry and science to create an experience that would resonate with people. Our environments were testaments to our dedication, our passion, and our unwavering belief in our mission. The sleepless nights, the struggles, the triumphs – they were all part of a journey that led us to a place of innovation and creativity. We were ready to share our vision with the world, confident in the knowledge that we had built something extraordinary. The future was bright, and we were just getting started. Ah, this is where the story takes a turn, where intrigue and mystery intermingle with the hard work and hustle of the business world. You see, despite my years of experience in high-level corporate positions and as an entrepreneur, I had never faced something quite like this. I was conditioned to tackle challenges, to forge through obstacles, but what unfolded at VoxBox was something entirely different. I remember the wisdom my old mentor bestowed upon me long ago. His eyes twinkled with the wisdom of experience as he said, “You will know when it’s your time when unexplained miracles will just happen and everything will fall into your lap with ease.” I had smiled then, appreciating the sentiment but perhaps not fully grasping its depth. But as VoxBox grew and evolved, those words began to resonate with me on a profound level. Things started falling into place in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Opportunities arose at the perfect moments, decisions that seemed risky paid off incredibly, and challenges that should have been insurmountable melted away as if guided by an unseen hand. There’s a saying that hard work meets opportunity, but what we experienced was beyond that. It was as if we were guided, protected, and blessed. I know that God was by our side, orchestrating so many miracles within our company. Those were not mere coincidences; they were affirmations, signs that we were on the right path. Every step of the way, from the late nights perfecting our virtual landscapes to the bold decisions that shaped our business, we felt an unexplainable force guiding us. It was not just about intelligence or strategy; it was about faith, belief, and a deep connection to something greater than ourselves.

Building a strategic partnership? Let me tell you, it’s like orchestrating a dance where both partners move in perfect sync. First, I always make sure to identify the shared goals and values, creating a foundation built on trust and mutual respect. I then engage in genuine conversations, really listening to what my potential partner needs, just as they listen to me. We work together, negotiate, and sometimes compromise to find the perfect rhythm that lets both of us shine. Throughout the partnership, I keep nurturing the relationship, adapting to changes, and growing together. It’s not just about business; it’s about connecting, understanding, and creating something that’s greater than the sum of its parts. For me, a strategic partnership is a living, evolving friendship.

I understood that the terrain was filled with pitfalls; many builders in the digital environment were falling into the trap of trying to make a quick sell, ignoring the fundamental element of credibility. They were racing towards the finish line without laying down the proper track, and failure was often the grim result. Since I knew that credibility was our lifeline, our cornerstone, and I was ready to build it brick by brick. In those early days, it wasn’t about profit; it was about reputation, about aligning ourselves with values that mattered. I reached out to big names, industry leaders who shared our vision, and offered to build for free. Yes, you heard right, for free! Many thought I was crazy, but I saw beyond the immediate gain. I recognized that these collaborations would become the golden threads in our tapestry, weaving together a brand image steeped in trust, excellence, and innovation. And it paid off! Those strategic moves, those calculated risks, those sleepless nights – they all coalesced into a reputation that sparkled with authenticity and quality. VoxBox was no longer just a name; it was a symbol of excellence. Now, we stand tall, able to command hefty price tags for our environments, not because we ask for it, but because we’ve earned it. Many builders falter because they’re not willing to invest the time and energy to work for free, to build that strong foundation that can carry them to unparalleled heights. I look back at those early days with pride, knowing that we dared to take the path less traveled. We built not just environments but relationships, not just a business but a legacy. Tech entrepreneurs often face intense competition. How does VOXBOX manage to stand out in an ever-evolving market in virtual environment and metaverse creation?

We stay in our lane and only compete with ourselves. We don’t focus on what others do, we stay in our lane which is E-commerce in Virtual Realty. We are always pushing our own limits taking the impossible and bending it beyond anything we can imagine. Also we rely on our research/data.

User feedback can be invaluable. How have you used user feedback to iterate and improve the solutions that VOXBOX offers?

One of the things that popped up in user feedback were navigational visuals that would lead users throughout the space without mentioning it in words. That small detail has made a huge impact in our builds allowing us to make it more immersive.

Twelve years ago, my entrepreneurial journey was far from the success story it is today. I was a dreamer, eyes filled with ambition, but my path was strewn with pitfalls I didn’t see coming. Scammed, robbed, and taken advantage of, I stumbled through the landscape of entrepreneurship like a ship lost at sea. Those failures, as painful as they were, became my most profound teachers. Each mistake was a lesson, each setback a stepping stone. They shaped me, molded me, and carved out the wisdom that guides me today. I learned to navigate the treacherous waters, to recognize the wolves in sheep’s clothing, and to build a fortress of integrity and knowledge. It wasn’t an easy transformation, and the scars remain, but they’re a testament to resilience and growth. My failures didn’t define me; they refined me.

Building for free in the very beginning which has given us the credibility that has shaped who we are present day. All we wanted was to show the world that we belonged to be recognized as one of the top builders in the world.

In the ever-expanding realm of the Metaverse, I’ve learned that carving out an identity is both an art and a science. Imagine your builds as strokes of paint on a canvas, each one defining who you are and the unique lane you wish to tackle. Stick to that lane, embrace it, master it. When I was new and my credibility was like a sapling waiting to grow, I looked towards major brands and businesses, offering to build for free. It wasn’t about immediate gains; it was about planting seeds that would one day blossom into trust and reputation. And here’s a nugget of wisdom that’s served me well: don’t get lost in the noise of what other builders are doing. Your journey is yours alone. Focus on yourself, your growth, your path. Let others’ successes inspire you but never dictate your direction. In this vast, virtual world, authenticity and determination are your North Star.
